preschool teachers

After visiting a pumpkin farm yesterday with a bunch of 3-5 year-olds, I am convinced that no one deserves heaven more than preschool teachers.

For the past 3 years I have been listening to my nieces rave about their teachers. So much so, Miss Jamie, Miss Erin, Miss Kristen, etc., may as well have honorary seats at family dinner night.

They not only teach the kids about numbers and letters, but also planets and rain forests. (Did you know that Neptune is the windy planet?) They not only let the kids color and paint, but they also put on plays, complete with costumes and video recordings. They not only take them on field trips to pumpkin farms and the zoo, but they also ride the bus with the kids (which officially qualifies them for sainthood!).

And yesterday I'm pretty sure it was one of the teachers who started the straw fight that left us all rolling with laughter as we picked the scratchy stuff out of our hair, shirts, and underwear. Because preschool teachers are fun!

Preschool teachers are patient and kind. They never give up on kids and somehow get them to sit still long enough to learn something new every day. Preschool teachers will protect your kids and respect your kids. And most of all they teach them that learning is fun, regardless of whether learning comes easy or slow.

EMBRACE PRESCHOOL TEACHERS.

Life is always changing. Sometimes it feels like a long process, sometimes it happens in an instant, and other times it just sneaks right up on you. Yesterday my sermon was about the importance of names. Matthew 1 begins with a list of names, the genealogy of Jesus. Mark 1 begins with baptism, when our name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Luke 1 begins with an angel telling Zechariah he would have a son, to be named John. And John 1 says "In the beginning...", reminding us of Genesis when God called things into creation, named them, and gave Adam his first assignment--to name all the animals. And because we are celebrating Jesus' birthday this week, we talked about His all important name. Jesus, which means "God saves." And Immanuel, "God is with us." Not "for" us. But "with" us. Dwelling among us. Walking the earth. Filling our hearts. I also shared that Katie means "pure". A name I've always been intimidated by. A name I never thought I could live up to. 40-40-40 ... Day 8: St. Jude

I didn't participate in Lent yesterday. I was too sad. Randy and I are preparing to leave Baja. One of the catalysts for that decision was to spend more time with my grandmother. But we never got that chance. She died yesterday. And I was completely devastated by the news. I didn't have the energy to donate or write about a cause yesterday. I didn't want to hear all the Christian platitudes ("Be glad she was a Christian and is with Jesus now."). I just wanted to be sad. To cry and walk the beach and take a nap and cry some more. I woke up this morning hoping it had all been a terrible dream. You would think that you would always click with all of your family members. You share DNA. You share an upbringing.
